The French word "matamore"

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I guess we all learn what bullying is at some point in our lives. When I was still doing my A-levels, I remember coming across the French word "matamore", supposedly meaning "bully", as in other kids who make your life hell at school. But only yesterday I saw it listed in my trusty dictionary that it was a word for "braggart" / "swaggerer". What is "bullying" to you, anyway?
